I usually relish local histories but, unfortunately, this one is very definitely a "two thumbs down". If you have family ties to the Currituck area from the twentieth century you might find something of interest in this collection of printed pages and mediocre family album photos... maybe.
Mostly it is a severely disjointed, rambling homespun genealogy of all the author's relatives and friends, and their relatives, interspersed once in a while with mention of hunting or fishing or boating or a catalog of local geographic references. A chapter may purport to be about an event but before it gets to the point (IF it has a point) you will read about many completely non-essential"asides" and assorted ramblings... all of which add little but verbiage to the supposed story.
One of the more tedious faults is the author "formally introducing" his friends and relatives at every mention. The first time you meet "Miss Bessie Lou Hannifer McFlinkinbottom" or "Mr. Herkimer Daniel Plowgermanning" you can excuse the unnecessary formality. But when every time they are mentioned you have to read: "Miss Bessie Lou Hannifer McFlinkinbottom" ... sometimes more than once in the same paragraph... you weary of that knuckleheadery quickly.
The final blow is that the collection of stories is so random and disheveled that it doesn't present even a superficially cohesive view of the Currituck area itself. And more is the loss for that, but it is what it is. Spend your money elsewhere
